- Rev. Wayne WoodsTransitional Pastor
Brother Wayne was born in New Orleans, but grew up in the small east central Alabama town of Wadley, Alabama, from the fourth grade through high school. He was saved during a youth revival at Wadley Baptist Church at the age of 15, sensing even then a call to ministry but not following that call until years later. He attended Vanderbilt University on a Naval R.O.T.C. scholarship for a year, and then attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 1975. He married his high school sweetheart, June, three days after graduation. He served 6 ½ years in the Navy as a P3 Orion antisubmarine aircraft pilot, then worked as an engineer for two different companies before saying “yes” to God’s call. He attended Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating in 1987.
Over the next 32 years, he served three SBC churches: FBC Alma, Ga.; Grace BC, Oxford, Ala.; and FBC Moultrie, Ga. In all three of these churches, Bro. Wayne served in a number of positions with his local Association and state Convention. After retirement at the end of 2019, he served as a Chaplain for Colquitt Regional Hospice. Brother Wayne and June moved back to Alma in the summer of 2021, where their daughter, Stephanie, and her family live. Their son, Brian, and his family live in Addison, Alabama. Brother Wayne and June have been married 47 years on June 7, 2022, and have four grandchildren they dearly love, two in Alma and two in Addison.
He began his service at Altamaha BC in January, 2022, and is looking forward to helping this great church find and call their next pastor.
- Rev. Deven MixonChildren & Family Pastor
I began my salvation journey with Jesus Christ when I was nine years old. I remember years ago when I was invited by a friend to a church event and the gospel was preached and my heart awoke to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Since then, my personal relationship with Christ has grown. As I “work out my salvation” in faithful conduct and Christian living, I see His hand guiding me and sanctifying me all along the way and I fully recognize “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” and that there is no other in whom I can go and find such forgiveness, peace and complete joy!
I surrendered the call to vocational ministry in my sophomore year of college. I've served as interim assistant youth minister at Central Baptist Church in Americus, Ga; preschool, children and youth minister at Limestone Baptist Church, Cochran, Ga; youth pastor and later education pastor at FBC Ludowici, Ga. I graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2007 with a Master's of Education in discipleship and leadership. Candice and I have been married since 2000 and have three children: Haddon, Hannah and Hudson. We are excited to be ministering since 2013 at Altamaha Baptist Church and find joy in seeing children and their families grow in Christlikeness!
